Initial Exams

Whether this is your child’s first dental visit ever, or the first one at our office, we’ll use the time to let your child acclimate to the dental environment. Our dentist and dental assistants are experts at showing children the dental tools we use and answering any questions they have. We want your children to feel safe and comfortable while they’re here. Depending on the age and comfort level of your child, it may be necessary for them to sit in your lap while the teeth are being cleaned. This is common and we welcome it!

What Happens During a Teeth Cleaning?

Our cleaning process is done by one of our dental assistants or dental hygienists. The cleaning includes polishing the teeth, flossing, applying a fluoride treatment, and taking x-rays when appropriate. Along with the cleaning, an examination will be done by our pediatric dentist.

We are thorough when it comes to your child’s oral health. Our goal at the initial visit is to get to know your child. We do this by reviewing their medical and dental histories and completing an examination that looks at the following:

The overall health of your child’s mouth
The stage of dental development
The way your child’s teeth bite together
The presence of cavities or gum disease

We always take the time to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, any oral health habits your child may have, and review the findings of the examination.

  Excellent service and great all around experience. They are so good with kids! Great hygienists who care and made our 7 and 5 year old so comfortable. Dr.’s are great and work well with orthodontic care provider, all in one spot! It’s always a good sign when the kids look forward to coming back!

  I absolutely love Eastside Pediatric Dentistry! Everyone is so nice and they were amazing with my son. He is almost two years old and they gave him things to do while we waited to be seen by Dr. Mast. The hygienist were so sweet and so good with my son. They let me son “help” them with cleaning of his teeth so he didn’t freak out which I thought was amazing and made the appointment so much smoother! Dr. Cody Mast was absolutely amazing too gave me some really good tips with brushing teeth and just made me feel like I’m doing a good job! I would recommended everyone going there because they are AMAZING!!! I’m so happy I found them for my son!

  Super friendly staff and very homey environment for the kids. Our 3 kids were a bit nervous when they went in for their cleanings and checkups but were soon put at ease and had a great time.
