Meet Dr. Cody Mast

Dr. Cody Mast earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from Nova Southeastern University’s dental program in Florida, followed by a two-year pediatric dentistry residency at Indiana University, which he completed in 2004. Prior to dental school, he attended Willamette University in Oregon, graduating with a major in German and a minor in Economics. During his junior year, he studied abroad at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, where he met his wife, Kelley. He later completed a fifth year of coursework at the University of Washington to meet the prerequisites for dental school.

Outside the office, Dr. Cody enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and photography. His favorite part of working with children is that “they are hilarious and extremely honest!”

Dr. Cody was born in Kirkland, WA at Evergreen Hospital, ironically the very same hospital both of his daughters were born in. His family moved from an acre grass ranch style rambler west of I-5 on 116th to a Bellevue neighborhood called Hilltop Community in 1979. From there he attended Newport Children’s School in Factoria, Eastgate Elementary, Tyee Middle School and Newport High School.

When asked what he enjoys about being a pediatric dentist, Dr. Cody says, “Being a pediatric dentist is a unique profession because it is one predicated on a relationship that grows along with the child. I didn’t really realize what a gem of this career was until getting to see my first patients, originally seen as infants, shaking my hand or giving me a thank hug 18 years later as they head off to college or work. You don’t know what the value of that relationship is until it has matured and it is time to say goodbye. It has nothing to do with teeth – it has everything in the world to do with being human and making connections. That privilege takes time and dedication to earn, and those appointments are both the best and worst part of my day. What’s cool, however, is those relationships come back in the form of your patient’s child, and in a few cases, grandchild. Yes, I am that old too. 🙂

I have been very fortunate in my career to have worked with some very gifted individuals, and I am still fortunate with that experience here at EPDG. The team here creates an environment akin to a home away from home, because that is really how we all look at it here. Laughter is shared as are the tears when it is necessary. It feels like home, and I am both proud and grateful to be a part of this team.”
