Because cavities know no age boundaries, we recommend that your child’s first dental visit happen around their first birthday or soon after the first tooth erupts. Both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics recognize early childhood cavities as a health problem affecting a significant number of children and recommend that a child see a dentist at one year of age or six months after the first tooth comes in.

What happens at the first visit?

At your child’s first office visits, you are able to comfortably ask us questions and gather all the information you need about how to care for your child’s teeth, how to prevent cavities, teething, oral habits, and the role of diet and hygiene in cavity development. The examination allows for our pediatric dentists to evaluate your child’s medical history, dental development, and identify potential problems at an early stage. Most importantly, an age-one visit allows your child to be introduced to dental care in a personalized and gentle way. This helps your child feel comfortable and helps the visit become a successful experience.

In the comfort of mommy or daddy’s lap

Many times, the very young patient can be slow to warm up to the idea of being in the dental environment. We may ask that your child remain in your lap during the examination and while additional care and conversation takes place. When the examination is complete, it’s time for your child to pick a prize!

  Dr. Cody and Roberto the dental hygienist are insanely good. I wish I could go here as an adult! Had our first visit with them today, we changed dentists bc of how rude our previous clinic was. My kiddo was giggling the entire appt Roberto was so gentle, Roberto was also so sweet and informative. He answered all my daughter’s questions, even the silly random ones and laughed along with her. She normally hates getting X-rays but he did so well with her, she wasn’t upset about them at all. Dr. Cody was very kind, he answered all my questions with some great education

  Eastside Pediatric dental was able to fit my daughter in for an emergency appointment. She had been having dental pain off and on for the past week fortunately, no intervention was needed, but it was a very swift visit. We were in and out very quickly as always, very exceptional care.

  Dr Mast is one of the best doctors I have ever met. He is patient, comprehensive and explains everything in patient friendly language. We drive 30 min from Kirkland to here but it’s worth it.

  Appointments run on time, dental hygienists are friendly to both children and parents, dentist is engaging  and thorough in evaluation.  We have been going to this office for 10 years and continue to be impressed by the degree of care and professionalism.
